As you all know by now, Eric was offered a really great job in San Diego! It is very exciting news, but has also been a very difficult change to process. Virginia has been the only home I've ever known. Leaving this state and the family we have here has been really emotional for me. Eric has been a saint dealing with my roller coaster of emotions.
Behind all the grieving of leaving Virginia, there is a lot of excitement about San Diego. And I know in time that will continue to grow as we get through the chaos of the move itself. I'm so proud of Eric; landing this new position is a huge accomplishment and could make us a lot more mobile in the future. We both have some family out in California that we are very excited to take advantage of spending more time with while we're out there. There are also a lot of areas we are eager to explore that we've never been in the southwest US region.
As crazy and hard as the last couple weeks have been, it's a good thing! Eric will need to start work the first week in July, so we've been nonstop preparing for the move in all of our free time. We've sold a lot on Craigslist and also had a yard sale that went better than we expected.
After the yard sale we made a couple deliveries for a few things we sold online.
Eric digitally signing and sending back his contract!
Got some boxes - time to start packing.
We took a break to make sure to use a gift card we got as a wedding gift to a really great local restaurant here in Alexandria. It was delicious food, great service, and the best company.
Got a few boxes packed up. Been organizing, donating, tossing things out - so much to sort through! Eric trying on his jubba while going through some of his old military trunks.
Took the final trip to the storage unit this past weekend to empty it out.
Finally condensing all of our things. We ended up having this unit a little longer than we anticipated so we'll be happy to cancel that bill.
We have gotten rid of SO much stuff either by donating, selling, or tossing if it's unusable, although you probably wouldn't be able to tell by the picture below. Most of our house is now boxed up in the front corner of our living room, and some of it we still have on standby for the next trip to be donated.
This past weekend has been spent packing up our entire house. This coming weekend we will be loading everything into a storage pod to be taken to California. We will each have a suitcase with us and a box of some of the home essentials for the next 2-3 weeks until we arrive in SD. Once all our stuff is gone, we will still have another week of work and will be sleeping on an air mattress during the week and then crashing with family until we're ready to make the long drive out. Hey, while we're "young", right? It will be an adventure! Frozen pizzas, playing cards, watching movies on a computer in our empty house, and then road-tripping out west - we're actually pretty excited about all that :)
Before then, we will be taking advantage of every opportunity we get with family before we have to leave. I'm so thankful for all their love and support during such a huge change. We couldn't do this without them. And I'm so thankful for Eric standing by me and being such a rock while I adjust to such a big change. Stay tuned for updates!
