Exploring San Diego - Maritime Museum

This past weekend Eric's dad came out to visit us for a few days. On Saturday we got a chance to visit the Soviet submarine B-39, something he's been wanting to see for years (and I know was of great interest to Benny as well). We actually got to visit and tour multiple submarines and ships through the Maritime Museum.

A picture of Eric and I in front of the USS Midway, even though it was not one of the boats we toured that day.

The first submarine we saw was the USS Dolphin, which was a Navy deep-diving research and development submarine. It was in use for 38 years which was the longest career in history for a US Navy submarine. It was decommissioned fairly recently in 2007.

Next we spent some time in the actual museum which was pretty impressive.

The one the guys were most eager to see was the Russian submarine. It was one of the Soviet Navy's largest non-nuclear submarines.

It definitely felt much larger inside than the USS Dolphin.

Finally before we left we decided to check out the Star of India, a merchant sailing ship. It is the oldest ship still sailing regularly and the oldest iron-hulled merchant ship still floating.

It made me grateful that I've never had to live on any of them - I don't think that would be the life for me. We had a lot of fun exploring though, it was definitely worth the visit!

Welcome Summer

It is starting to feel like Summer is upon us! I think it is officially only a week away, but we've decided to get it started early.

Fortunately enough for us, the military deal that we used last year to go to Seaworld so often is back! Only for the month of June, but we're taking full advantage. We've already been three times in the last few weeks.

Sitting in the soak zone at the dolphin show.

We've also already used our pool a couple times and hung out with Alison at theirs.

We celebrated the Caps winning the Stanley Cup from afar.

And even rode our bikes all the way to the coast, something on our bucket list that we hadn't done yet. Usually we just bike to the bay nearby.

We realized next time we need to bring some fishing poles.

As usual, I am welcoming the Summer season with open arms. I hope everyone is enjoying some warmer weather!

Memorial Day Weekend

Over the three day weekend we took our first trip of the season to Seaworld with Alison's family.

We got to see trainers hanging with and feeding the dolphins.

Eric and I got to ride the new roller coaster - the Electric Eel! It's a new favorite.

We went to the sea lions show. We are very excited in a couple weeks the Cirque Electric show will be back for the summer - we'll be there!

Then we spent some time in the kid area where the girls had a blast on some of the smaller rides.

Before we left we saw a Sesame Street parade with Bert and Ernie, Big Bird, the Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch, Count Dracula, and of course Elmo.

Everyone was pretty tired by the afternoon.

The next day Eric and I went to Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma to reflect on what the weekend is all about.

They had flags at every single headstone, it was really beautiful.

I will forever be grateful to the warriors who lost their lives to protect ours.

We closed out the weekend by going to Alison's house to grill some burgers and dogs.

It was a great weekend full of family and reflection. Happy June everyone!
