Newborn and Family Photos

When Riser was a week old, we decided to get some family/newborn photos done. It was very laid back and casual at our house which made it fairly easy.

Andddd this is the best family photo we got. This is very true to Bonnie's personality when almost anyone else tries to get her to smile. She is a tough nut to crack. I'm not sure this one will be getting framed up on the wall.

Easter

We had a very nice Easter weekend. We decided to just enjoy some low-key family time, as we've had visitors in and out since Riser was born. On Saturday we met up with a friend at our local open air market. It was Easter-themed with a little egg hunt and Easter bunny. There were tickets in the Easter eggs that the kids could match up with pictures at each of the booths to trade in for candy. They also had a little petty zoo which you know our animal lover was all about.

On Sunday morning we made pancakes for breakfast, had a small little egg hunt around the house and Bonnie got an Easter basket. At church B got to forgo childcare and stay with us for the outdoor service. Then we went to an egg hunt at a neighbor's house. They do a hunt annually between 3 houses, the front yards are for the little kids and the back yards are for the bigger kids. It was a lot of fun. We took it easy the rest of the afternoon, Bonnie got a late nap and we FaceTimed with some family.

Bonnie got her first nail polish in her basket and felt SO special getting her nails painted for the first time.

Riser is 1 month old

Riser is already one month old! I can't believe how big he is getting already. It felt like we had such a long newborn period with Bonnie, so concerned about her eating and growing and being healthy. With this little guy, he is growing so fast I feel like the newborn period with him is going to be way too short! I have been trying to soak in all the wonderful newborn sweetness while I can.

At his 2 week check-up, Riser was 7 lb, 15.5 oz. He is eating about every 2-3 hours except during the times he starts cluster feeding (mostly in the evenings). Thankfully he is also able to take a bottle so Eric is able to help at times. He is drinking around 4 ounces per feed. He has outgrown his newborn clothes and is now in 0-3 months. He is still unsure about the pacifier, but every once in a while it seems to help.

We don't have any sort of nap schedule during the day yet. He still just sleeps when he wants and feeds on demand. I am hoping in the coming months to start establishing more of a routine. I have been recently putting him to bed for the night around 9 or 9:30 so that I can get an hour to myself before I go to bed. He is waking up about every 2-3 hours. After his 5/6 AM feed is usually the hardest to get him to go back to sleep as he just seems gassy and uncomfortable.

I wear him a lot in the wrap carrier because it keeps him the most secure. Especially now that my attention is split between him and Bonnie, the wrap is wonderful because I can hold him while I tend to her. He has been doing well sleeping in his bassinet and has taken a handful of naps in his crib as well. He doesn't seem to love the baby swing but just loves laying on his belly on the floor.

Riser is such a sweet sweet boy. We are just so in awe of him and blessed to have him in our family.

Grandparents Visit

Last week Benny's parents came to meet their first and only grandson! They hadn't been to Virginia since Bonnie was a newborn over two years ago, so the trip was long overdue. It was a wonderful week, full of much of the same newborn things like hanging around the house, playing with Bonnie, going to the park, and taking walks. It was fun to get to show them around our house and neighborhood since they haven't been here since we moved.

Bonnie also warmed up to them fairly quickly which was wonderful. I love that our family has been able to give her so much attention while we establish a bond with our newest member and adjust to his needs.

And now, enjoy another photo dump:

This girl loves holding her brother.

These guys were two peas in a pod.

We took a walk in Colonial Williamsburg one day and saw these baby lambs that were only three days old!

It was nice because I would go to bed before everyone else so I got to spend some one-on-one bonding time with my little man.

I can't believe my little girl used to be SO tiny in this seat!

Siblings <3

They got to come see our neighborhood Easter egg hunt over the weekend. It was much smaller than the year before, but still very sweet and fun.
