Exploring San Diego - Mission Bay, Balboa Park

I can't believe it's been almost two weeks since we arrived in San Diego! The Saturday morning after we arrived we went to go get our keys to our new place. We were excited to see it in person for the first time!

Entrance from the front gate.

Walking the grounds.

Our kitchen/dining/living area. Our furniture and all of our stuff won't be arriving until this coming Saturday. We're really looking forward to making it a home and getting settled in. I'll post more pictures once we actually have everything in.

Eric laying in our closet that could be a third bedroom.

View overlooking the golf course.

The first week was spent exploring and trying to see as much as we could before Eric had to go back to work. We got to see La Jolla with Alison and her family.

We randomly were driving around our area just looking for a thrift store and happened to drive by the building Eric will be working.

One of the places I was most excited to explore was Mission Bay. It's just over a mile away from our apartment. I can't wait to start biking here!

On the inner part of the bay you can drive right up on the beach and park. On the outer part of the bay there are tons of picnic areas and playgrounds.

Perfect spot for the sunset.

More exploring around our complex.

We had to check out the pool of course.

We also went to check out Balboa Park.

When we got there we realized we were just in time for a concert by the Marine Band at Spreckels Organ Pavilion.

Such a beautiful, grand place.

Japanese Friendship Garden.

I also got an email from a few of my previous co-workers that were in San Diego for a conference. They offered to take us out to dinner at the Fish Market in Coronado!

It was really nice to see some familiar faces from back home and check out a new location. Can't complain about a free meal either ;)

We went back to Balboa Park earlier on another day so we could check out the botanical garden and a museum or two.

The weather had been on the cooler side (for me - low 70s) and overcast. We're told that's called "June Gloom" here. As of July 1st I'm happy to say the sun has been shining all day every day and it is starting to warm up a little more too (high 70s). I'm learning just how large San Diego is and how much there is to explore! It was a great start to the week.

  2. Being so close to the beach will keep you in the 70's most of the summer! Sept is the hottest!
You've really seen a great deal in such a short time! Just wait till you are invaded by Comic con!
