Recently Eric and I had a great opportunity to volunteer with Feeding San Diego (part of Feeding America). This is an awesome organization because they not only focus on feeding those in need, but they place an emphasis on providing healthy food with nutrition education.
In their first year of operation in 2007, San Diego County suffered from disastrous firestorms that displaced hundreds of thousands of individuals. In the first week of the fire with only two employees, they delivered 515,000 pounds of food and water to evacuees, firefighters, and volunteers.
We got the chance to meet some really great people and had a lot of fun while we were there.
We learned how to glean onions, there were people washing various produce, sorting boxes, cleaning, etc.
I really enjoyed doing something different after work as opposed to our normal routine, it was a lot of fun and was for a great cause. I would love to take advantage of more of these opportunities!
Awesome community service project!
