7th anniversary

Benny and I celebrated our 7th anniversary at the end of February. Since we don't often do dates during the year, we try to make a point to get away for a night or two to celebrate our anniversary - we have been doing this ever since Bonnie was a baby. And it wouldn't be possible without amazing family offering to watch the kids. Mom and Dave were so kind to come take over for us while we left for the weekend.

This year we went to Virginia Beach. First stop was lunch at a sandwich place a friend recommended, and it was very good.

Then we went to the Museum of Contemporary Art.

We even got to make our own little drawings and hang them on a wall.

It had been raining all day and we still had a little time before dinner so we decided to walk around the mall - which was a lot more busy/popular than I thought malls were these days!

We went to Waterman's for dinner and had the most delicious food. You can't tell from the picture but it had a great view of the water.

To cap it off we spent some time at the hotel pool/hot tub. A great end to the day!

In the morning we had breakfast in our hotel, which also had an incredible view of the water (you'll notice this is a theme for just about every meal).

Then we headed out to do a hike at First Landing State Park.

And back to an oceanfront restaurant for lunch.

I've got a pretty cute date.

We took a long walk on the beach afterwards. We were very thankful for a break from the rain.

Eric chased some birds.

That evening we had plans to go do go-karting, laser tag, and maybe a ropes course (all in one location). When we arrived, the front of the building was taped off with crime scene tape and there were police everywhere. The website said they would be closed the rest of the day. I found a news article that there had been a shooting just 20 minutes before we got there (no one was hurt). So that plan was scrapped! We ended up going to a brick oven pizza place which didn't disappoint.

The next morning we saw the sunrise from our balcony, had breakfast, and starting getting things together to head back home.

Back at home, mom did such a great job the kids barely even missed us - and certainly didn't want her to leave! Thank you again so much for taking on the task - it was much needed!
